Check the attendance-zone and student-entry requirements

The regulations linked by GSFC, dated August 8, 2025, require a parent to have been a Georgia resident for at least one year, with an active-duty military exception. The student must satisfy the public-school attendance or kindergarten-entry route and live in an eligible public-school attendance zone. The attendance route uses two consecutive enrollment counts; military exceptions and other exclusions require checking the full rules.

Home study still has program participation requirements

Georgia Promise includes eligible home study, but an existing homeschool arrangement does not itself satisfy the program’s entry requirements. Confirm the current school list, student route, award and home-study obligations through the Georgia Education Savings Authority’s program administrator. Use its current application window rather than assuming every eligible family can apply at any time.

Identify the curriculum, software and equipment categories

The linked regulations include Authority-approved curriculum and required supplemental materials, qualifying courses and specified services. Vendors and service providers must follow their own application and approval process. Describe a digital handwriting course’s subject, student level, duration and price. Ask separately about any tablet or accessory; the curriculum category alone does not establish equipment approval.

What this means for homeschool curriculum

Home study is included in the official Promise description. Families should check the designated attendance-zone and student requirements in the current regulations, alongside Georgia’s separate home-study responsibilities. School eligibility and curriculum expense approval are different decisions.

Federal scholarships starting in 2027

Georgia has made an advance election to participate in the Education Freedom Tax Credit (also called the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit) for 2027. The Education Freedom Tax Credit (EFTC/FSTC) is separate from the state options above. ECCA refers to its earlier legislative proposal.

IRS participation list, as of : advance election recorded. An advance election does not establish an approved SGO list, an open student application or an awarded scholarship. Check the Education Freedom Tax Credit guide and how to find an SGO for the next steps.

Your next steps in Georgia

  1. Read the current Promise regulations linked by the Georgia Student Finance Commission.
  2. Check the student’s qualifying attendance zone and education arrangement before applying.
  3. For any funding route, confirm the student’s award, the exact expense and the payment process before committing to a purchase.

A state’s home-education registration, a scholarship award and approval to buy from a particular provider are separate decisions. Keep the current handbook, award notice and purchase documentation together.

No. Student eligibility, an awarded account, provider participation and the individual expense are separate checks. Confirm the exact course, subscription or equipment and payment instructions before ordering.

Can Georgia homeschool families use these options?

Home study is included in the official Promise description. Families should check the designated attendance-zone and student requirements in the current regulations, alongside Georgia’s separate home-study responsibilities. School eligibility and curriculum expense approval are different decisions.
