Use the current award, not an older amount table
The published 2026–27 application window was March 1–16, including renewals. Awards depend on the applicable category and available funds; eligibility does not ensure every applicant receives money. The official landing page also contains award amounts labeled 2025–26. Use the student’s current-year determination when setting a curriculum budget.
LA GATOR purchases use Odyssey; out-of-pocket reimbursement is excluded
The official program page says all purchases and tuition payments are completed through the Odyssey platform and families cannot be reimbursed for out-of-pocket expenses. Curriculum and textbooks are listed among approved expense types, subject to the program rules. Confirm the exact item in the approved purchasing process before ordering with personal money.
What this means for homeschool curriculum
Families considering education at home should verify their specific arrangement with LA GATOR. The home-study route, scholarship participation and eligible provider rules are not interchangeable. Use current account instructions rather than older Louisiana scholarship summaries.

- Who can qualify
- The application criteria and the order in which eligible students receive funding are separate. Follow current residency, student and priority requirements.
- Award and budget
- Awards vary by eligibility category. The official landing page contains amounts labeled 2025–26; use the actual current-year award before making a budget.
- How home education fits
- Confirm the student’s education arrangement with the administrator. Nonpublic education eligibility does not make every home-education expense automatically reimbursable.
- Curriculum and permitted expenses
- Use the current eligible-expense and service-provider rules for curriculum, tuition and services. Approval of a family is not blanket approval of all vendors.
- Applying and using funds
- The published 2026–27 application window was March 1–16, 2026, including renewals. Eligible applicants may not all receive an award if funding is insufficient.
Federal scholarships starting in 2027
Louisiana has made an advance election to participate in the Education Freedom Tax Credit (also called the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit) for 2027. The Education Freedom Tax Credit (EFTC/FSTC) is separate from the state options above. ECCA refers to its earlier legislative proposal.
IRS participation list, as of : advance election recorded. An advance election does not establish an approved SGO list, an open student application or an awarded scholarship. Check the Education Freedom Tax Credit guide and how to find an SGO for the next steps.
Your next steps in Louisiana
- Check current LA GATOR eligibility and award-priority guidance.
- Confirm the current-year award and approved expense before paying a provider.
- For any funding route, confirm the student’s award, the exact expense and the payment process before committing to a purchase.
A state’s home-education registration, a scholarship award and approval to buy from a particular provider are separate decisions. Keep the current handbook, award notice and purchase documentation together.
Common questions
Does approval for Louisiana home study create a LA GATOR award?
No. A home-study approval and a scholarship award are different decisions. Confirm the current LA GATOR eligibility, application and expense rules; do not treat the state’s home-study registration as a funded account.
Can Louisiana homeschool families use these options?
Families considering education at home should verify their specific arrangement with LA GATOR. The home-study route, scholarship participation and eligible provider rules are not interchangeable. Use current account instructions rather than older Louisiana scholarship summaries.
