How XP Works

Best-run XP, fixed completion awards, daily warmups, and conditional Fast Write top-ups.

XP records rewards earned through learning. It counts toward the daily goal, streaks, and reports. A handwriting score, a completed run’s XP, and the extra XP awarded for a replay are not always the same number.

Lessons and reviews: best-run XP

For a lesson or review, Scribble compares the XP for the completed run with the student’s previous best run on that content. This is not a comparison of individual handwriting attempts.

  • First completed run: earns its run XP.
  • Higher-XP replay: earns only the difference above the previous best.
  • Same or lower-XP replay: earns no additional XP.

For example, a first run worth 8 XP awards 8 XP. A later run worth 10 XP awards 2 more XP. Another run worth 8 XP does not reduce the best run or award extra XP.

Intros, assessments, and required activities

Unit intros, intro lessons, assessments, and required activities award fixed XP on first completion. Replaying does not award that fixed completion XP again.

Warmup: once per day

Warmup awards fixed XP at most once per day in your Family or school’s timezone. Further warmups that day award no extra XP. Warmup XP counts toward the daily goal, but warmup does not complete a curriculum entry.

Fast Write top-ups

After a student completes a curriculum entry that day, Scribble may offer a Fast Write top-up if the daily goal has more than 0 and at most 3 XP remaining and suitable Fast Write content is available.

Each qualifying top-up run awards up to 1 XP, capped at the amount still needed for the goal. A run must meet the activity’s participation requirement; simply opening or ending it does not guarantee XP. Top-ups stop awarding once the goal is met. Ordinary activity-hub play is not automatically a top-up.

Replays and access

Use the replay options offered in the app. Scribble’s server controls access and replay availability; completing something once does not guarantee that it can always be replayed.

A replay does not complete the curriculum entry again or repeat a fixed completion award. Any new XP it earns can still help meet that day’s goal. Meeting the goal on an optional day counts too, and a date can add only one streak day.

The iPad and dashboard share the same awards

Scribble’s server confirms and stores official XP. Server-confirmed awards shown on iPad are official, just like the awards shown in the dashboard. Immediate handwriting feedback or a run score may differ from the additional XP awarded, especially on a replay.

If the displays differ, check that you are viewing the same student and date, then refresh while connected. Neither screen is a separate source of XP. See Progress looks wrong if the difference persists.
