Privacy and Child Data

What Scribble stores about a student, who can see it, and how to request deletion.

Scribble stores the information needed for a child’s lessons and for the adults authorized to support them. The Privacy Policy is the full explanation of collection, service providers, retention, and parental rights.

Child profiles and learning records

We store a display name, age, handedness, avatar, and learning settings, together with submitted handwriting, lesson and activity results, curriculum state, XP, streaks, and dates. A linked Alpha account may also use a school-provided sign-in identity. A Family child does not need a separate email account.

Who can see it

Family owners and admins manage the Family’s children. An invited read-only viewer can see either selected children or all current and future children, depending on the permission granted in Settings → Invitations. Selected-child access does not expand automatically. School reporting follows the school’s authorized access relationships.

Scribble staff access information when needed to provide support, operate the service, or handle a privacy or security request. Children’s handwriting and private support messages are not shared with advertisers or gift fulfillment providers.

The curriculum map may show anonymous peer avatars and curriculum positions within the same organization and curriculum release. It does not show peers’ names, student or account identifiers, school or class identifiers, XP totals, or exact activity histories. It is not a student directory.

Purchases and optional questions

Billing records include payment references, access dates and accepted terms. We share the child’s first name with Stripe to identify their subscription so authorized adults can distinguish siblings when managing billing. We do not send handwriting or learning results to Stripe. Optional Family-wide gifts use explicit owner opt-in and one saved shipping address; no iPad models are collected. Student setup does not ask for diagnoses or learning-difference answers. Parents may choose to book a support call or share feedback; neither is required for enrollment. Adult email-list questions are separate from child profiles.

Deletion and parental choices

A parent or legal guardian can ask to review, correct, delete, or stop further collection of a child’s information by emailing hello@scribble.app. We verify authority before disclosing or changing records. For school-managed records, we may coordinate with the school.

Individual child-data deletion is handled through support. Family profiles and authorized reports remain visible after learning access ends. Manage subscription cancellation in Stripe through Settings → Billing & access; cancellation does not delete learning history.

Family owners can separately schedule deletion of the whole Family in Settings → Family & account, with a 30-day cancellation period. This is not an individual child-deletion control. Pending payments or other purchase obligations must be resolved before automated Family deletion. Contact us directly about a child-data request rather than waiting for a billing issue to finish.

Leaving a Family or deleting one adult’s account does not automatically delete children’s records shared with other authorized adults. Ending paid learning access is also different from deleting a child’s records. Retained records support authorized history and continuing learning; the full policy describes each record’s lifecycle. Unfinished session drafts become eligible for cleanup after 14 days without a saved checkpoint.

Saving learning records

Scribble requires an internet connection to learn and save. Confirmed learning records are stored on the server; unfinished work that has not been confirmed saved is not guaranteed to survive closing the app or switching iPads. A saved session draft is temporary resumable work, not a permanent archive of every pen stroke.
