How to read writing speed, letter attempts, curriculum days, daily goals, streaks, and XP in a student report.
Open a child or student from the dashboard to read their report. Here is what the visible cards mean.
Writing speed: legible letters per minute
LPM means legible letters per minute. The headline summarizes the last 30 days, with a comparison to the previous 30 days when available. If there is no recent measurement, the report can show the last measured value with its date. A dash means there is no speed measurement to display, not that the student writes at zero LPM.
The chart shows the daily speed trend. Use its period buttons to change the chart’s date range; the headline’s 30-day window stays the same.
Look at the trend
A single measurement can vary. Read the trend alongside the Letters chart and curriculum history rather than treating speed alone as a complete picture of learning.
Letters: passed versus total attempts
The Letters chart has Lowercase and Uppercase tabs. Each letter’s bar shows handwriting attempts from that letter’s lesson:
- The whole bar represents total attempts.
- The passed portion represents attempts that passed the handwriting check.
- The summary gives passed attempts out of total attempts and a pass percentage when data is available.
These are attempt counts, not a count of letters mastered. Letters appear in curriculum introduction order. No attempts yet is not a failing score.
Curriculum progress and timeline
Curriculum progress shows completed curriculum days out of the total, plus a completion percentage. These are numbered groups of curriculum work—not elapsed calendar days or a promised completion schedule.
The Curriculum timeline lets you expand a day to see its steps, completion status, and earned XP out of the available XP. A completed step does not necessarily mean the whole day is complete; other required steps may remain.
Today, streaks, and XP
- Today: awarded XP toward the daily target, or Done once the goal is met.
- Current streak / best: the current streak and the student’s best streak. Meeting the XP goal can add a day even on an optional day; missing an optional day does not break it.
- XP earned: total awarded XP appears at the bottom of the report when the student has earned XP.
- Last active: the report’s latest recorded learning activity.
XP measures awarded learning rewards, not writing speed or a separate legibility score. For the award and replay rules, see How XP works.
